December 21st, 2009No Comments

  1. Look the part – it is very important to set a good example and dress smartly and to speak clearly and in a confident manner. Remember that amazingly, only 7% of the interviewer’s opinion of you is formed by what you say – the rest is formed by how you appear and behave.
  2. Be prepared and plan ahead – find out where the interview is exactly, how to get there and how long it takes. Maybe even do a quick recce of the journey to plan ahead.
  3. What kind of interview will it be? Will it be one interviewer or more than one? Formal or informal?
  4. Examine the job requirements and your CV and think about what type of questions you may be asked. Is there anything on your CV you can’t fully justify or back up?
  5. Prepare your key strenghts and weaknesses and show how they will relate to the main tasks in this job.
  6. Show working examples of when you’ve used certain skills in the industry/market.
  7. Sell yourself. Don’t appear over-confident but be honest about your skills.
  8. Prepare some questions of your own for the end of the interview. It is best not to ask about money or perks just yet, this is usually discussed at a second interview or when the company come back to you with an offer.
  9. It is important to get feedback on your interview, whether you were successful or not.
  10. Turn off your mobile! Treat the interviewers with respect and give them your undivided attention.
